Low Places – S/T November 28, 2010 at 4:53 pm
We’ve featured Low Places on here before, and seeing as they have this new self-titled, here they are again. This self-titled includes the 3 songs from their EP, Violent Hunger, and 3 new songs. It will be available from Recession Records soon, so look out for it. Once again, the band has been so kind as to provide a mediafire link and they have it up for free on their bandcamp, both being linked to at the bottom. I would go with the bandcamp though because you can choose what format you want, which is important to some people (as it should be).
The first track is a powerful instrumental building up to my favorite song on the entire record, Malcontent. It’s almost punishing how the vocalist delivers the lyrics, very cathartic. It speeds up about halfway through, something you’ll come to recognize throughout the album. It definitely makes you want to smash shit before slowing back down to an amazing ending. Choir, the last new track is nice and fast, sort of reminds me of I Hope You Suffer. Sleeping In features some great lyrics and delivery, technically sound and, dare I say, melodic. More fastness and ear stabbing with Detached, and The Doors Are Closing closes the record out in a nice fashion.
Overall, I really enjoyed the 11 minutes offered here by Low Places. A nice mix of trudge and slashing combined with one of my favorite new vocalist. Highly recommended and if you think so too, tell everyone you know about them!
